Chamber Music Madness will be holding a special series of “Friendly Audition Days”!
Eligible are string students ages 8-20 (violin, viola and cello)
- New students or those who haven’t been involved with CMM for some time. If you have already registered, you may disregard this notice! If you have inquired but have not yet set up your audition, this is your chance!
- Current students (those who were enrolled in the past season) have already been invited for the coming year into the program level that the faculty had deemed appropriate. However, any current student wishing to re-audition for “promotion” may certainly do so during these dates.
The audition dates are as follows:
- Tuesday Aug. 29 6:00-9:00pm
- Wednesday Aug. 30 2:00-5:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm
- Thursday Aug. 31 6:00-9:00pm
Please choose a preferred date, and you will be assigned a time. The audition is in north Seattle. Informal atmosphere, with a chance to chat and students/parents to ask questions! No accompanist is necessary.
Send an email with your choice of date to us at office@chambermusicmadness.org.
The “Chamber Music Madness” (title program) consists of ‘coached sight reading’ workshops on string quartet masterpieces. It meets MONTHLY from 2-5 on Sunday afternoons. Students come from Olympia, Port Townsend, Bellingham, Issaquah, and beyond for this enriching and fun chamber music experience. Each semester culminates in an in-house mini-concert for parents and friends.
The audition fee is $30 per student. This fee is payable at the audition. (Checks payable to Chamber Music Madness) Auditions take approximately seven minutes and students are asked to perform the following:
- Scales - 1 major and 1 minor of your choice; 1-3 octaves
- Prepared piece - a piece or an excerpt (doesn’t need to be memorized) between three and four minutes in length (choose a piece that best shows off your playing ability!)
- Sight reading - material will be provided for sight reading at the audition
CMM also has programs for committed ensembles (known as “Beyond Nirvana”) that meets on several Friday evenings during the course each semester. This audition will also count toward consideration for that ‘invitational’ program.
Eligible for this particular program are advanced string students ages 14-20.
We are looking for your individual level of technical capability, but also in your unique musical personality and sense of style. Just do your best!
We maintain an active waiting list of string players desiring to participate in our programs. So, if we cannot accommodate your student right away, it’s just a matter of time before they will get their chance! Please feel free to email office@chambermusicmadness.org or call us at 206/366-1211 with any questions.
