The Adult Chamber Music Retreat weekend is on! Please save the date!
If we are able to safely gather, we will hold the retreat in its usual venue, the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts in Leavenworth, WA. We are actively monitoring Washington state guidelines for events, and will prioritize everyone’s health and safety. We will require all participants to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
If we cannot gather safely, we plan to hold our 2nd Virtual Retreat. The 2020 Virtual Retreat was a fun-filled event that all participants enjoyed, so one way or another we will make music together!
If we can meet in person, your chamber ensemble will enjoy a weekend of inspiring music-making with professional coaches in the Cascade foothills just outside of Leavenworth, WA, a 2-3 hour drive from Seattle. The Icicle Creek Center for the Arts is a picturesque retreat with performance hall, practice huts and cabins. For this popular event, each ensemble chooses its own music selection and works together through the weekend coaching sessions, culminating in a final participant performance on Sunday afternoon. Registration for pre-formed ensembles of quartets, quintets, or trios is preferred, but there are often opportunities to place individual musicians.
Please note that we accept a limited number of piano ensembles. All members of the ensemble need to be fully registered for consideration.
The 11th annual Chamber Music Retreat will be held September 16-19, 2021. Camp starts Thursday evening with a reception and socializing, initial rehearsal without coach, followed by informal ad-hoc playing. Intensive coaching begins Friday morning and continues through Sunday morning, culminating in a Participants Performance Sunday afternoon before departure. We will follow Washington state guidelines for event attendance. If attendance is limited to participants, we will look into ways participants can invite family and friends to attend virtually.
This retreat is for adult violin, viola, cello and piano players of intermediate to advanced ability. Tuition includes coffee and snacks. Meals and cabin fees will be separate this year, offering attendees greater flexibility. Housing is available on a limited basis in 2-person or 3-person modern cabins on campus, and at local B&Bs, home rentals and motels in downtown Leavenworth and the Icicle Creek area.
Two volunteer positions are available and include a tuition or meal discount. Participants interested in these positions should email the office to request job descriptions and application form. The Board will grant these positions on June 1, 2021, with the determination based on financial need and how best to serve the retreat.
Please read below! These are changes for this year!
The registration process will be different this year than past years. Based on Washington state guidelines, there may be restrictions on the number of people that can safely gather in the indoor spaces at the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. We will open registration on April 3, for your ensemble to apply to attend the in-person retreat, and will notify everyone about their acceptance status by June 1, 2021. If we decide, at that time, to hold another virtual retreat instead of the in-person retreat, your ensemble will automatically be accepted for attendance.
