LIMITED TO FIVE ENSEMBLES TO INSURE QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE.
We are happy to coach at any level of ability or chamber music experience. The supportive atmosphere helps the students to feel comfortable. Our groups range from piano trio to chamber orchestras, and hail from Salem to Walla- Walla.
· Master class with Karen: Each ensemble receives a public coaching session from Karen; observers actively involved in the critique process.
· Coaching with Irv Eisenberg: a private coaching session- with chance to ask questions, discuss rehearsal techniques and get new ideas!
· Observation and critique: Enjoy the chance to listen and give feedback to peer ensembles
· Ideas for directors: how to improve your chamber program and apply ideas to the larger orchestra and program (clock hours are available for teachers through WMEA)
· Group bonding: Festivals include a 'mystery' activity that is designed to allow the students to interact with those from other regions.
The sessions introduce and develop chamber music concepts and techniques: communication, how to cue, and connect with fellow musicians. Emphasis on style, interpretation, attitudes on performance, and how to have more fun with your music!
These festivals include high school chamber ensembles from around the Northwest. We accept only five groups each day. We will develop concepts and skills inherent to chamber music, such as communication, how to cue, and how to relate musically to the others in the group. It also emphasizes musicality and style interpretation, feelings about performing, managing performing anxiety, and how to have more fun with your music! We have groups who range widely in technical ability, length of time together as a group, and degree of preparedness.
Each ensemble receives a master-class type coaching session from Karen, this usually with two or three of the other ensembles as observers. The audience is actively involved in critiquing, assisted by the fact that they can watch scores as the groups are playing. In addition, each group gets a full private coaching session with Irv Eisenberg. Mr. Eisenberg will focus on technical and ensemble skills.
Past years have included chamber orchestras or quartets from Roosevelt, Garfield; Ballard, Ferndale, Nathan Hale, Shorewood, Olympia H.S, North Thurston, Walla-Walla, Ferris High School of Spokane, Port Angeles, Woodinville, Portland and Salem, Oregon.
Eligible: small high school string groups. Each festival may accept one chamber orchestras of up to 15 members each. Piano and woodwinds also welcome.
Registration: Registration is on a space available basis. In the case of cancellation, you can find a substitute ensemble or if not possible, ask for a refund. A per ensemble fee of $50 would be subtracted from the refund for administrative expenses.

Karen: You worked your usual magic for the students. They all enjoyed
themselves and left with heightened senses. They really appreciate your
passion; it frees them to open up to their potential. The musical sharing
with you and Roger was priceless - it was not lost on them what a truly creative
event they were witness to. Thank you. Chip Schooler, Orchestra Director, Olympia High School, Oct.2004 |
