Chamber Music Madness is a non-profit organization dedicated to the musical and personal development of young people through chamber music. Director is Karen Iglitzin, former first violinist of the Philadelphia String Quartet.
Karen and her staff help young people to develop ensembles skills, improve their playing and musicality, grow in confidence, and become very familiar with some of the greatest music literature: that of the string quartet and other chamber music classics. Students also become part of an ever growing community of string players.
Based in Seattle, Chamber Music Madness serves as a regional center for student string players
to explore the brilliant literature created for the string quartet and other
chamber works.
The various program offerings include:
CHAMBER MUSIC MADNESS: students ages 8-19 come from
as far as Bellingham, Olympia, and Port Townsend to develop ensemble skills
through sightreading workshops and be a part of a vibrant community of young
people.
Three levels are offered: Ultimate Madness, Beyond Madness, and
Mini-Madness.
Beyond Nirvana provides
an opportunity for committed ensembles to work in depth
and perform.
Camp-in-a-Day
and School Outreach Program
help support the school music programs from Washington
and Oregon.
Public performances are offered a number of times per year. Certainly one of the highlights is the "Anti-Contest-Concert". This prepares musicians for the challenges and joys of public performance in a festive environment. Camp Nirvana is an intensive 2-week summer camp enabling very advanced students the chance to delve deeply into the string quartet repertoire and challenge themselves to the fullest in their musical development.
If you believe that students learn best in a non-competitive environment, while enjoying themselves, this is the place for you! Students will develop a love of music deep enough to last a lifetime.
